News from the Beatservice camp!

Finally, things are starting to happen again at the Beatservice camp! We have four albums planned for 2009, three new releases, and one re-release.

First one out is a new artist in the Beatservice rooster: The Electones.
Not quite new though, the guys behind The Electones are Jens Petter Nilssen and Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen, which you may know as Xploding Plastix. But The Electones is something quite different. They have been working on this side project since 2002, with two 12"-releases on the British label Inertia in 2002 and 2003. Since then, they have steadily been working on the debut album up until autumn 2008. In the meantime, Inertia has closed down, and Beatservice Records is very happy to release The Electones' debut album "If You'll Be Null, I'll Be Void". An album that can be described as 60's folk meets early electronica with a dose of Lanois...
Release date: 23rd of March (Norway/digital, a bit later on export).
http://www.beatservice.no/release.asp?catno=113

Later in the spring, it is finally time for a new album from Flunk.
Anja, Jo and Ulf have this time left the pop format from the two previous albums. You still get the familiar bitter-sweet pop songs, but the album is darker and more electronic, and rougher beats, a step to the left, with hints back to the debut album. "This Is What You Get" is the title, a quote from the cover song that they have a nice tradition of including.
Release date: 11th of May (world wide & digital)
http://www.beatservice.no/release.asp?catno=116
http://www.beatservice.no/release.asp?catno=114 (Cigarette Burns digital single, released 23rd of March)

In the autumn, we all look forward to a new album from Fenomenon (august). Also in the autumn, Beatservice will release an export/digital version of the second Xploding Plastix "Donca Matic Singalongs".

If you would like to check out the Beatservice releases, Last.FM is the place to go. We are slowly adding more and more from the back catalogue, and all new releases will be featured there weeks before the release. You can already now listen to the new Flunk-single "Common Sense" there, and soon the Electones album will be added.

Also within the spring (possibly May), the Beatservice catalogue will be added to Spotify and Beatport. We have a cool remix EP from Ralph Myerz ready for an exclusive release on Beatport as soon as all the practical details are sorted.

Xploding Plastix back on Beatservice

Xploding Plastix are now home again, they have just signed a deal for two new albums on Beatservice Records. In addition, their second album, 'Donca Matic Singalong' will finally be released outside Scandinavia.

Xploding Plastix consists of Hallvard Wennersberg Hagen and Jens Petter Nilsen. Their debut 7" 'Treat Me Mean, I Need The Reputation' (2000) was an instant underground hit, and made way for their debut album 'Amateur Girlfriends Go Proskirt Agents' (2001). The album quickly became a classic, and is to this date still one of the bestselling Norwegian underground electronica albums.

After the debut, Xploding Plastix left Beatservice Records for the Norwegian branch of the major label Sony, and in 2003 they released the album 'The Donca Matic Singalongs' in Scandinavia. Both of the albums where nominated for Spellemannsprisen (Norwegian Grammy) and the Norwegian Alarm-award.

Since then, they have been busy working with music for short films, movies, and TV- and radio-productions. They have also collaborated with the Kronos Quartet, plus the collaboration project Piston Ltd who released the album Domestic Engine last autumn, and their sideproject The Electones.

Autumn 2008 they are finally ready with a new Xploding Plastix album, released on Beatservice Records. We are looking forward to it!!

Ralph Myerz solo on Beatservice

Ralph Myerz is having a little break from The Jack Herren Band, and has a solo album planned. Beatservice Records have signed a world wide deal with Mr Myerz. The album is about 80% done, and the title is already set: Ralphorama. It isn’t due until jan/feb 2008, but we can look forward to 3 singles in 2007, all three showcasing the different sides of Ralphorama.

The first single is called My Darling, and is a pop-electronica track with hip-hop beats and sugar sweet vocals from Christine Sandtorv (of Ephemera, also known from other RM&TJHB tracks). This single will be released early summer, and will have remixes from Bent, Rune Lindbæk, Kahuun, Doc L Jnr and more.

The next single is All Night Long, a funky fresh retro-disco-thing, where we can hear Mr Myerz himself doing a nice white-boy-disco-rap, along with female singer Caro. Indeep for the 00’ies!!! This will be released late summer/early autumn.

The third single will be released late autumn/early winter. This is a hip-hop track with contributions from US rappers Devin The Dude (Jay Z, Dr. Dre, Snoop, Tupac etc), along with Kurupt from Dogg Pound, known from a.o. Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle album. Plus Onkl P representing Norway.

The album will also have a few more surprises when it comes to collaborators/guest vocals/rappers. Style wise, the album will also touch into instrumental hip-hop ala Nightmares on Wax, a touch of Berlin-minimalism (!) and some house stuff.

You can listen to some tasters on MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/theshakes4ever
